Do Mimosa (Sensitive Plant) seeds require any preparation before planting? The seeds don't germinate following normal sowing methods. |
Mimosa seeds have a very hard seedcoat, and soaking will help soften it prior to germination. Soak seeds overnight in warm water, or for a half hour in almost boiling water, then sow on the surface of moistened seed starting mix. Press in with your hand, but don't cover with additional soil. (Seeds need light to germinate.) Place the trays or pots in a warm area and cover with plastic wrap to help hold in moisture. Seeds should germinate in 21-30 days when kept at 70F - 75F. Remove plastic as soon as seedlings appear and provide bright light. |
