Pee Gee Hydrangea shrubs flower on new wood of the season so any pruning should be done in winter or early spring. Pruning would be done to maintain vigor (remove a portion of the oldest branches at the base each year) or possibly to control size and overall shagginess although it is not strictly necessary to prune it at all.
