I have a poundsweet apple tree in my backyard which, for the first time has fruit. My problem is that since poundsweets begin green and ripen green how do you know when they're ripe?

Unfortunately I am not familiar with a variety named Poundsweet, but generally apples are ready to pick when the seeds are dark brown or black. Let the taste be your guide, too. The supplier of your tree should be able to tell you the approximate picking season since apples just like many other fruits have early, mid and late season varieties.
