We live in a pretty hot and humid location and we would like to know when we should trim our roses? Also, how far back should we trim them back? They are wiry too, and we would like to get them to fill out better. |
Texas rose growers generally shear their roses back by about 1/4 in late August to encourage an new flush of fall growth. This results in a great bloom period in October. In February roses that repeat bloom through the year are pruned back, usually by about 1/3. "Once-bloomers" (those that bloom only in spring are not pruned until after they bloom or you will be cutting away all of the bloom buds. Both of the above pruning practices will help create a stockier rose bush. Thanks and please stop in and visit our website again soon! |
