The Q&A Archives: Corn Variety

Question: I planted Stowells evergreen corn. It is doing very well, but the silks are a dark reddish color. What kind of corn is this? Is it a edible corn or is it decorative variety? Any information will be helpful.

Answer: Stowells Evergreen is an open-pollinated corn that matures in 100 days. The ears are 8" long, with about 14 rows of white kernels. It's an edible corn. There's also a 'sugar enhanced' variety called Hybrid Stowell's Evergreen. It, too, has white kernels and it matures in about 90 days. Happy eating!
