As I was deadheading petunias I noticed that all the newest ones and the ones just beginning to unfurl have spots that make it look like they've been sprinkled with salt. Reminds me of the ich that fish get. Should I be putting something on them to clear it up?

The spots may be evidence of thrips which are more prevalent than usual during a dry year. Thrips can be treated with insecticidal soap.
