| Although in theory this sounds like a good idea, in my experience it would be a mistake. The reason I say this is that iris tends to rot if anything grows and shades and keeps moisture near the rhizomes. Unfortunately, this is why keeping the iris bed well weeded is so important in the first place. You might try several inches of organic mulch around but not atop the iris instead. |
