Wine half-barrels are popular gardening containers and with an average depth of about 24", most any annual or perennial will be right at home when planted in them. Try planting both upright veggies, such as tomatoes or peppers, and low growing or hanging veggies such as cucumbers in your half-barrel, just for visual interest.
