The Q&A Archives: Baby Garlic?

Question: My neighbor gave me some volunteer Garlic starts that looked like chives this spring. I planted them and the tops died this late summer. When I dug them up, the bulb looked like a small onion set. Can you cee the clove segments in juvenile garlic or have I been onioned? If this is Garlic shall I plant it this September?

Answer: I think you've been onioned -- each individual separated clove of garlic should grow into a multi-sectioned head in one season. At least there's still time for a fall planting of the real thing.
