I live in the Northeast and I would like to know the best flowers, annuals and perennials, that I could plant next year.I am looking for midday full sun, shade in late afternoon, and must be able to withstand New England weather. This year was a very bad year, very little rain so your selection must be drought resistance and heat resistance. |
There are so many plants you could select rather than just give you a short list I would suggest you look at two books I find very useful: "Perennials for Dummies" by Marcia Tatroe (ISBN 0-7645-5030-6) and "Annuals for Dummies" by Bill Marken (ISBN 0-7645-5056-X). These two books will give you the detailed and straightforward information you need to perform a site evaluation, prepare the soil and make plant choices that will be successful in your garden's microclimate and soil. In fact, probably the most important "secret" of successful flower gardening is soil preparation -- and you can begin to work on that this fall. They also cover ongoing care and maintenance which are equally critical to having a good looking flower garden. Enjoy your flowers! |
