The Q&A Archives: Deterring Dogs from Urinating on Plants

Question: Is there such a thing as a dog pee resistant plant?! Any new plant I bring home is subject to immediate attention from my two dogs. As long as I leave it in a pot, it's OK. But I recently planted a passion fruit vine in the ground, and they peed andpeed on it until it was quite dead. Any suggestions besides potted plants? Thanks! Lisa Ann Beattie Santa Barbara, CA

Answer: Sorry, but no plant will enjoy dog pee. How about an electric shocker!!!! Just kidding. Best to cage the plants (or dogs) or spray a repellent such as Hinder or Ropel around the plants so the dogs will go elsewhere.
