I'm a newcomer to this gardening thing, so forgive me if I sound like a blithering idiot. I just bought some bulbs (Dutch Iris, Tulip and Crocus). When do I plant them? When will they bloom? And do I ever dig them up? |
The bulbs you mentioned should be planted now, in the fall. They will come up and bloom next spring. You should not have to dig them up -- they should come back from year to year. To help them stay vigorous, allow the foliage to grow and ripen naturally after they bloom. Once it has dried up go ahead and remove it. For more detailed information about bulbs you might want to take a look at a basic book or two -- one I particularly like is "Flowering Bulbs for Dummies" by Judy Glattstein, ISBN 0-7645-5103-5. A few hours with that book and you'll have it down cold! Enjoy your bulbs! |
