| The hybrid New Guinea Impatiens are perennials, but are often grown as annuals. The plants can be upright or spreading and they usually have large leaves that are often variegated with cream or red. The flowers can be 2"-3" across and are quite striking. It isn't necessary to pinch off the spent flowers, but you certainly can if you want to keep the plant looking neat. New Guinea Impatiens need to be fed every month and prefer rich, moist soil with a pH level of 6.0 to 7.0 (very slightly acidic to neutral). Add some peatmoss to your potting soil, or some well-rotted manure to help adjust the pH if your soil tends to be alkaline. |
