| The severe drought in the Northeastern US has caused many lawns to dry up and turn brown. Shaded areas seem to be recovering with some rainfall but the exposed areas are not. What do you recommend? |
| You may find that the sunnier areas also recover in time and with rainfall although it may take them longer because they were more severely stressed. However, in some of the most extremely affected areas there may be a need for replanting and fall is a good time to do this. You might wish to consult with your County Extension as to the best type of grass to use and the most appropriate methods of soil preparation and seeding or sodding. You might also wish to take a look at a book or two on lawn care; one I particularly like because it addresses soil tests and preparation, variety selection and lawn establishement as well as ongoing care and maintenance is "Lawn Care for Dummies" by Lance Walheim, ISBN 0-7645-5077-2. |
