What are the names of hearty and colorful (fall) trees that would grow well in Tennessee (near Kentucky border)? I would prefer names of those that are fairly fast growing. I want to plant it in my front yard for shade.

Maple trees come first to mind, with Acer saccharum (Sugar Maple) heading the list. Rhus typhina (Stag's Horn Sumach), Malus tschonoskii (Flowering Crab), Euonymus alatus (Winged Euonymus), Ginkgo, Quercus palustris (Pin Oak), and Liquidambar (Sweet Gum) are also good choices. All grow at a reasonable rate and provide reliable autumn color.
