| Potato seed pieces planted in late summer for a fall crop do tend to easily decay in the warm soil before they have a chance to sprout and establish a plant. To reduce these problems, dust the cut surfaces with sulfur dust and allow them to "cure" for about a week in a well ventilated area. This will reduce problems from soil rot. Another technique for avoiding soil rot is to select smaller potatoes to plant whole without cutting into seed pieces. Thanks and please stop in again soon! |
