Is there a way to treat potatoes so that when they are cut and planted they will not rot in the ground?

Potato seed pieces planted in late summer for a fall crop do tend to easily decay in the warm soil before they have a chance to sprout and establish a plant. To reduce these problems, dust the cut surfaces with sulfur dust and allow them to "cure" for about a week in a well ventilated area. This will reduce problems from soil rot. Another technique for avoiding soil rot is to select smaller potatoes to plant whole without cutting into seed pieces.
