Our peaches are starting to ripen but most have many little black dots on them. The dots are on the skin and do not go into the flesh. The peaches taste good. Do you know what these dots are and is it harmful to eat the fruit? |
The surface blemishes you describe can be caused by insects and, as long as the problem doesn't travel into the flesh, it's more of a cosmetic problem than anything else. Cut or peel away the affected skin if you don't want to eat it. The dots could be excrement from insects, or tiny wounds caused by insect feeding. Enjoy your harvest and don't worry about the dots on the skins of the peaches. |
