| I need to know the description of the above mentioned plant. I think it would be a shrub, or small tree, and probably tropical. Does it require sun or shade, and will it tolerate a winter outdoors in my area? |

The genus Jatropha contains about 125 species of milky-juiced herbs, shrubs, and trees, some useful for their oils or as ornamental plants in tropical gardens. Jatropha integerrima is a shrub or a small tree, growing from 3' - 10' in height, with fiddle-shaped leaves and blossoms of red (described as vermillion, scarlet or rose). Jatropha is native to Cuba, thrives on heat and should grow in your central California garden in full sunshine. Give it some protection if heavy frost is predicted, or grow it in a container and take it indoors during the winter months. |
