I bought bags of Cow manure and Humus mixture for my perennials - is this comparable to compost?

You have asked an interesting question because the soil analysis results will differ widely on all three types of material depending on who produced it and what ingredients were added! If you do not have access to home-made compost, then the bagged manure and humus mix is a ready substitute. If possible, I would also add some fallen leaves, grass clippings, and so on to try to increase the level of organic matter in the soil. You might also wish to have your soil tested to see how effective your preparation has been and find out what if any additional amendments might be needed.
