I have moved to a new home in zone 6 , I am making new flower beds and will have bulbs coming soon for fall planting. My question is this: After I plant my bulbs, can I put bark mulch over all of them and then expect the flowers to come up through the mulch in the spring??? I need help on this as my husband says yes the bulbs will come through and the weeds wont, I am not sure. Since I have over 1300 bulbs coming and spent a lot of money I dont want to mess them up... |
The bulbs should be able to come up through the mulch unless it is applied in an unusually thick layer. Several inches of mulch will in fact be beneficial to the bulbs because it will allow them additional time to root and become established before the ground freezes. |
