We have a small area approximately 16in.X10ft. along the side of the house that gets full sun all day. We are unsure what type of plant/plants [flowers, vegetables, vines, etc.] to grow in this area. We live in sw Oregon, zone 8. It would be helpful but not necessary to be a little drought resistant. What would you recommend? |
There's quite a variety of plants you can put in your sunny garden spot. Water-wise or drought-tolerant plants can usually get along without water at all, once they're established. Some shrubs to consider are Acacia, Buddleia davidii (butterfly bush), Ceanothus (wild lilac), Rockrose, Escallonia, Nandina (Heavenly Bamboo), and Cytisus (broom). Perennials and annuals to compliment your shrubs might include Artemisia, Baileya (desert marigold), Coreopsis, Kniphofia (Red-Hot Poker), Liatris (gayfeather), Oenothera (evening primrose) and Zinnia. Vegetables choices include the sun-loving tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, squash and pumpkins. |
