The Q&A Archives: Pruning Sweet Olive Tree

Question: My sweet olive tree is about two years old and has grown very tall and skinny. Can I cut the top out to force bushiness? Elizabeth Martin Longwood, FL

Answer: Most olives can withstand pruning, so if you'd like a bushy sweet olive you can prune it. However, you will lose the tree-like shape and after many prunings it will start looking more like it multi-branched shrub.
