| We have a rhododendron that needs to be transplanted. Yet it looks like its budding here in late Sept..I live in a region with a temp. zone can vary easily from zone 4 up to zone 6. When would you advise me to transplant? |
| Rhododendrons develop leaf and flower buds during the summer months for the following spring's display of blossoms and foliage, so it's not unusual for you to see buds at this time of year. Most shrubs and trees transplant well during the cooler autumn and spring months. You can safely transplant your rhodie now. If rainfall is sparse, provide water to your plant each week until winter weather arrives. To lessen the shock of transplanting, choose an overcast day and dig the new hole before digging up the shrub. Try to keep the rootmass intact as much as possible, and transfer into the new hole as quickly as you can to keep the roots from drying out. |
