I see people asking you how to get rid of oleander caterpillers. However, I'm a beginner "butterfly
gardener" and will happily sacrifice some leaves if
that's the only problem they cause. What kind of
butterflies do they turn into?

Caterpillars can be the larvae of butterflies or moths. Without seeing the caterpillar on your oleander, it's difficult to say which is living there! Here's a website address with pictures and descriptions of both the common moth and the common butterfly. Hope this helps you decide whether your plants are host to orange butterflies or a moth.
