The Q&A Archives: Transplanting Climbing Roses

Question: I planted a Red Blaze' climbing rose last year which I purchased from Burpee. I need to transplant it this year. Can I move it this spring and are there any special concerns when I dig it up? Laurie Knoll Farmington, MN

Answer: It would be best to move your rose this spring before new growth begins. Try to dig very deep, because roses tend to have a large tap root. Prepare the soil at the new site beforehand and water them well once planted. Keep them mulched, watered and fedand they should grow and bloom for you this year.
