I have a beautiful deck and my house plants love it out there all summer. My problem is that when I bring them in I also bring in spider mites, gnats, etc.

I like to set aside a "quarantine" area for my houseplants. I put them on my enclosed porch, and watch them for a week or two. I sometimes do a preventative spray of insecticidal soap, and I inspect them carefully before bringing them indoors. You might also try letting the soil dry out a bit more than usual between waterings, as this can discourage fungus gnats.

Good luck!
