| Your many FAQ's suggest that asparagus should be mulched after the fall frost kills the leaves. We may only get a few nights below freezing in January and february. My asparagus bed was started this spring from seed and is 2 to 3 feet tall. It has not turned brown or died back. Is there a way to force dormancy and when do you suggest I mulch the bed? |
| If the foliage on your plants doesn't turn brown in late fall or early winter on its own, either cut it down or fold it over on top of itself and lay it over the top of the bed. December is a good time to do this. You can then mulch over the tops of the plants with a few inches of organic material such as leaves or aged compost. |
