Very few anemones are hardy north of zone 6, however you might be able to grow the Snowdrop Anemone (Anemone sylvestris) in partial shade in a well drained humousy soil. This plant will colonize an area where it is happy and has lovely white blooms in the spring. Another possibility would be the pink flowered Anemone tomentosa "Robustissima", the earliest blooming of the Japanese anemones and another lovely plant. It is hardy to zone 4 amd does well in a good rich soil in sun or partial shade.
