I Just planted three new Clematis vines this summer and would like to know what I need to do to protect them for their first winter. Also should I trim them back or just leave them? They are approximately 2 to 3 feet long with one vine each plant. |
Newer clematis vines rarely need pruning the first few years, so do not cut them back. Simply mulch around the base of the vines but do not allow the mulch to touch the vines as this could encourage rot. Clematis are quite winter hardy so they should do just fine. |
