The Q&A Archives: Deterring Cats

Question: We have a very small town garden and my neighbour's cats (3) are forever leaving "presents" in my flower beds and not covering them up. Have you advice on what preventative measures I can use? Liz Bartholomew Colchester, England

Answer: Short of a good dog, you can try a number of repellents and "tricks" to get your cats to go elsewhere. Cats don't like thorny branches or ground with unsure footing. You can experiment with putting old rose branches and refrigerator grates temporarilyin the area they like. Sprays such as cayenne pepper, garlic sprays, moth balls and Hinder and Ropel commercial repellents. Make the area unattractive to them, and they'll go elsewhere.
