My dalhias are dying back and I'm just about ready to dig them and put them in storage for the winter. Over the last few years my dalhia bulbs have gotten very large, is there any way to split my bulbs? If so when is the best time to do so and how do I divide them in the proper way?

You would divide the clumps of tubers being careful to take a bit of crown with each tuber. (It won't grow without that piece of crown attached.) Keep in mind that a partial clump will make a larger plant than a single tuber. Do this in the spring just before you plant.
