The Q&A Archives: Best Ways to Start Seed

Question: What would be the best way to start growing a seed (put it water or soil or paper towel)? What is the best kind of soil to use and what kind of fertilizers should be used? Tim Hardt Caistor

Answer: The best way to start and grow a seed is in soil. Unless you make your own you can purchase seed starting soil mixes that have all the ingredients necessary for starting any seeds. Artificial light placed a few inches from the seedlings after they germinate and proper watering are most important to getting seedlings started. Once they are growing dilute liquid fertilizer can be given. Check your local library for general books on gardening for any help.
