I have a vine growing on my arbor from seeds a friend gave me last spring. It has large purple leafs and blooms in the fall. The bloom almost looks like tiny orchids on a stem. While flowers it produces purple bean pods. Almost looking like a butter bean pod. If you wait until they dry out you can replant easily each spring.

You have what are called variously dolichos, lab lab, purple hyacinth or Egyptian hyacinth beans! Aren't they wonderful!
