The Q&A Archives: Heliotrope

Question: Can you please tell me how to collect seeds from the Heliotrope (heliotropium) plant.

Answer: To collect seed you will need to allow a flower to mature fully and fade while still on the plant so that seeds will form. Examine the flower carefully and when it is quite dried out there should be seeds apparent if you pull it apart a bit. Incidentally, many gardeners find it more effective to take tip cuttings from a favorite heliotrope plant and use those as a means of propagation rather than seeds.
