The Q&A Archives: Popcorn

Question: There is a person in our office that doesn't believe me when I say that popcorn is grown just like regular corn on the cob. She thinks it must be manufactured. Could you tell her how popcorn is really produced? Thank you! Theresa Castillo Spokane, WA

Answer: Yes, there really is a popcorn plant! It is a specialized variety of corn that is grown basically the same as sweet corn. It has a longer growing season and is left on the stalk to dry before harvesting. I hope you had a bet!!
