The Q&A Archives: What is Baby Corn?

Question: I am trying to figure out what "baby corn" really is. I have only seen it in canned form. We can't figure out if it is some sort of hybrid corn, or perhaps it is an okra cousin. Can one grow it? Help! Paige McKay Lubbock, TX

Answer: Baby corn is really just young corn picked before pollination. It grows the same way, you just pick the ears as the first silks appear. There are variety better adapted to being used as baby corn. They're available through, Nichols Garden Nursery 1190 No Pacific Hwy. Albany, OR 97321-4580 541-928-9280
