| The answer to your question depends on some extent to how large or small the plants are. If the root system is fairly well developed, they may be able to withstand the seasonal freezing and thawing of the soil and the accompanying ground heaves. If they are barely rooted they may be heaved up and out of the ground during freeze thaw cycles. If you plant them in the ground, mulch around them carefully and check them periodically. If they have heaved, push them back into the soil as best you can. If you keep them in pots, place them in a very protected location and be sure the roots are well insulated; a cold frame would be ideal. Good luck with your new plants! |
