The Q&A Archives: Controlling Grass around Peonies

Question: What can I use to get the grass out of my peonies. I looked at Preen and peonies are not listed. Dwight Starr Columbus, OH

Answer: Herbicides work best when the plant to be eradicated is in active growth. Unfortunately both peonies and grass would be eliminated. You might try mulching to suppress the grass. Do this after the peonies have produced a healthy stem with foliage....and make the mulch thick (4-6 inches).
