The Q&A Archives: No Blossoms On Rose

Question: My first year "Tropicana" rose had no blossoms
this season . It did grow to cover the trellis,
however. It received optimum fertilization and
watering. All my other eight rose bushes were
lovely. Why didn't the "Tropicana" blossom?

Answer: If your new Tropicana is receiving full sunshine all day, I'd guess that it was over-fertilized and put all of its energy into producing canes and foliage. Compounding the issue, sometimes it takes new plants several months to become established before they can grow and perform as expected. Next spring treat your Tropicana to fertilizer higher in phosphorous and potassium and lower in nitrogen and see if that doesn't make a difference in her performance.
