Bougainvilleas need little water once established, so natural rainfall should suffice, except during the hottest months of summer. Most landscape plants appreciate 1-inch of water per week during the summer when they're actively growing. If your bougainvillea is newly planted, you should supply 1-inch of water per week for the first year. After that it should be able to get along just like any other established plant in your landscape.
