Our back yard receives very little sunlight. Some spots no light at all. It is walled in completely; about 20 feet square. I need a ground cover to go around the patio that will be close to the ground, very dense and will not need sunlight. Is there such a thing? We have tried to grow grass twice but both times it died from lack of sunlight...even the so-called shade varieties.

You have some very exacting specifications, and it will be difficult to find something suitable for your shady site. Japanese spurge (Pachysandra terminalis), Vinca minor(periwinkle), Lamium maculatum (Dead Nettle) and Oxalis may be your only choices. These plants grow from 6"-12" high.

Hope one of these will be just what you're looking for!
