Red Tip Photinias can be pruned at most any time of the year. If a major pruning job is to be done, it may be best to wait until late winter so the plant can quickly begin to regrow with the warming weather of spring. If could be more stressful to do a severe pruning in summer or late fall.

The characteristic reddish color on the new growth is best achieved by a light shearing in late summer. The resulting new growth will turn red when cool weather arrives in fall.

Good luck with your Red Tip Photinias!
