The Q&A Archives: Fast-Spreading Groundcover for Hillsides

Question: What type of ground cover is best for a hillside with dry, sandy soil and full sun? I'd like something fast spreading to prevent erosion. Joanne Bradley Plymouth, MA

Answer: The state of Pennsylvania has used crown vetch for erosion control on steep banks. It is fast spreading (very invasive). If you don't like that idea then consider these: Wilton carpet juniper, Goutweed, bugleweed, or Euonymous.
