What's the difference between green beauty boxwood and winter gem boxwood? Can I plant them now?

They are very similar, being varieties of Buxus microphylla japonica or Japanese Boxwood. Japanese boxwood takes dry conditions and alkaline soil. It grows slowly, usually to 4-6 feet. Buxus microphylla japonica 'Green Beauty' is hardier than common Japanese boxwood (to -10 degrees below F), maintains a deep green color in cold weather and stays mostly green in hot weather. B.m.j. 'Winter Gem' is the hardiest of all the Japanese boxwoods. Yes, fall is a good time to plant so that root systems can establish.
