I would like to design a garden of herbaceous plants that will provide a fragrant garden for the entire growing season. What are your recommendations for New Jersey? |
There are many ornamental herbaceous plants that provide fragrance in the garden, either by their blooms or their foliage. Some favorite perennials in this group would be: daffodils such as "Thalia", peonies, old fashioned iris, bulb lilies, sweet violets (viola odorata), lily-of-the-valley (Convalleria majalis), hosta plantaginea, dianthus, fragrant hemerocallis (daylilies) such as "Hyperion", calamint, catmint, the many different types of thyme, chives, sage, lemon balm, bronze fennel, yarrow, artemisia, lavender, and chrysanthemums. These should all do well in New Jersey. |
