The Q&A Archives: Vegetables for Containers

Question: Can broccolli be grown in containers? Are there any varieties of beans, or peas that can be grown in containers? I have discovered container gardening for tomatoes and cucumbers but would like to expand my crop. Marie Chandler Columbia, MD

Answer: Most vegetables can be grown in containers. Almost any broccoli variety will do fine given a large enough container (at least 12" diameter), water and fertilizer. Lettuce, bush beans and short peas such as 'Sugar Ann' can also be grown successfully. Experimentation is all part of gardening.
