The Q&A Archives: Preventing Leggy Seedlings

Question: I started my seeds in peat pots under lights. They are geting very tall, leggy and some have fallen over. I have tried not to over-water and added lights this year but they still don't get bushy? Why? Rose purple Alexandria, VA

Answer: Your seedlings need light 14 hours a day and the bulbs down a few inches above the transplants to keep them from getting leggy. Also, keep the room temperatures between 60-70F, fertilize lightly and transplant them when the seedling height is 3 times the diameter of the pot. This should help.
