Could you please tell me how often it's necessary to have a pin oak pruned/cut back? It's about 10 years old and we've had it trimmed once last year. It was growing a little crooked because of the large trees around it - it had to bend to catch the sun. It seemed to improve the health/shape of the tree after it was pruned.

If your tree is bending to reach the sun then it may simply be too crowded (or shaded) and pruning will never really correct that condition. The best advice I can give you is to consult with a professionally trained arborist about the long term health and care of your tree.
