My daughter is in 5th grade and is doing a science project, the title of which is "Does sugar in the water prolong the life of cut flowers". I have been unable to find any information on this and would really appreciate your input. Thanks alot! |
As a matter of fact, sugar helps supply nutrients for cut flowers. The usual recipe is one teaspoon bleach and one tablespoon sugar dissolved in one gallon of water. Or, one cup 7-Up mixed into 1/2 gallon of water. The acid in the bleach slows bacterial growth and the sugar provides nutrients. Use either mixture in place of plain water for a vase of cut flowers. |
