Is it okay to plant my 'Pontiac' potatoes in the same place where I grew sweet potatoes the summer before?

It is a good idea to rotate crops from the same family among beds from year to year so that family-specific pests and diseases don't build up in the soil. However, sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas) and potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) are from different plant families. By the way, sweet potatoes are related to morning glory vines!
